Yale University is one of the oldest and finest institutions of higher learning in the United States. It was founded in 1701 to educate young men from what was then the Colony of Connecticut and prepare them for lives of public service. Over three hundred years later, Yale has grown in size and purpose. Its college now educates 5,200 young men and women each year from all 50 United States and from 70 countries. A total community of more than 11,000 students -- in Yale College and eleven graduate and professional schools -- is engaged in 33 different degree programs taught by a university faculty of more than 2,400.
